QUESTION - Font Colors:  I'm having trouble with changing the color of some of the font & also getting rid of the spaces above & below the text (I did check the box where indicated).  When I try to change the color I don't get a menu to make a choice for the color I want.  If you can help me that would be great.

ANSWER:  When you click on the button, you will be taken to a new page with a small text window for editing and with many familiar icons (from word processing) above the text box area.  You can control many font features such as bold, italics, underlining, font, font size, automatic numbering, automatic bulleting, indenting, aligning left, center or right, linking, and cutting, copying and pasting.  These are the same icons you will find in MS Word for these same functions.  To change the characteristics of one particular part of your text, or even of a single word, simply select (highlight) the word(s) you want to change, and then click on the formatting icon(s) you want to use.

Click on the Text Color icon to bring up the color palette and then click the color of your choice.  For more advanced users, you can enter a six digit hexadecimal color value for a nearly endless variety of colors.  You can look up "color palletes" or "html color codes" on any search engine and cme up with scores of choices.  However, for the most comprehensive (thousands) variety of color choices and for color matching, you'll have to use a good image editor such as Photoshop or PaintShopPro.  Note:  do not use the "#" as the sitebuilder automatically adds that to the code.

If you are not seeing these familiar icons, then the likely problem is that you're using an internet browser other than Internet Explorer. The Sitebuilder system is much less functional in Firefox, Navigator, AOL, and on Macs.  So for best results, please edit your site using Internet Explorer.

QUESTION -  Creating Links:  What is the best way to put links on a page?

ANSWER:  First of all, I never use the link icon in the main menu at the bottom of any Sitebuilder page.  That method is too restrictive.

Instead, I enter text as you normall would using add text or edit text.  Then I use words within that text box as my links.  Doing it in this manner gives you great flexibility in what words you use for linking, in their font, their size, their location, etc.  Using this method, you can use any word, anywhere as a link.

  • click on the  button
  • highlight (select) the word(s) you want to link to another page or website, or even to an email address
  • click on the  link button at the top right above your text box
  • select if you want to link to "Another Web Page (URL)", "To a Mail Message" or "To another page in this site"
  • Complete the link by entering the full external web page address (must use the http://), an email address, or select a page of your own website from the drop down list.
  • The link should automatically turn blue; you don't have to change the font color.  You can, however, make it bold if you wish.  If it doesn't turn blue, then retype the words and go thru these linking steps again.
